American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE) Wisconsin Chapter Leadership Development Program (LDP) Cohort X was hosted at SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital – Madison and Stoughton Hospital to wrap up the 2019 calendar year Site Visits.
Joyce Zweifel, FACHE, Manager-Business Development welcomed the group to St. Mary’s Hospital – Madison on October 25th and provided an introduction to SSM Health over breakfast. Jonathan Lewis, FACHE, VP Operations, St. Mary’s Hospital then took the group on an excellent tour of St. Mary’s Madison which included the helipad for a great photo op.
Jonathan Rozenfeld, President, St. Mary’s Hospital then joined the group for an overview of Hospital Operations, followed by an engaging session on Clinic Operations with Mark Thompson, M.D., President, Medical Groups-Wisconsin Region and Mark Kadlec, VP Operations, Physician and Ambulatory Services.
Veronica Scott-Fulton, DNP, MPH, RN, NEA-BC, Regional Vice President Nursing WI joined the group for a lively discussion on Servant Leadership to Drive Results, followed by an interactive Question and Answer Session on Health System Operations, Leadership and Career Development with Kerry Swanson, Regional COO Wisconsin, Jonathan Rozenfeld, President, St. Mary’s Hospital and Mark Thompson, M.D., President, Medical Groups-Wisconsin Region.
The cohort then traveled to Stoughton Hospital for the afternoon, and enjoyed lunch during introductions and discussion with the Administrative Team about their Career Paths.
Dan DeGroot, CEO shared his inspiring career journey, and Teresa Lindfors, FACHE, VP of Growth and Development shared a great overview of Culture and making of Excellence Together. Cohort members were interested to learn more about What it’s like to be a Critical Access Hospital from Dan DeGroot, CEO and Michelle Abey, CFO. The day wrapped up with a comprehensive tour of Stoughton Hospital with Teresa Lindfors, FACHE.
The SSM Health site visit was coordinated by cohort member Derek Angle, Manager, Medical Imaging Operations, SSM Health Dean Medical Group. The Stoughton Hospital site visit was coordinated by cohort member Betsy Folbrecht, Specialty Physician Clinic Manager who also hosted student mentee Lexa Van Fleet from Future Healthcare Executives (FHE) at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
Overall, the day provided excellent insights into both organizations and open dialogue with senior leaders. Key takeaways included: Aim to be a servant leader and put the team first; conceptualize and see the big picture; optimize your resume to tell your story and quantify your differentiators.
