ACHE Leadership Development Program (LDP) cohort IX spent the day in Eau Claire on December 7th for a site visit at Mayo Clinic Health System, organized in collaboration with Cumberland Healthcare. The group was hosted at Mayo Clinic Health System’s Luther Campus, and joined by leaders from Cumberland Healthcare.
Paul Horvath, MD, Chair – Urgent Care, Mayo Clinic Health System, Northwest Wisconsin, welcomed the cohort as a 2016 graduate of our ACHE Wisconsin Chapter Leadership Development Program and current chapter board member, and led the opening session on Organizational Integration and Physician Leadership. Jerilyn Mulcahy, MBA, Director – Corporate Health Services and Cindy Ming, MS, LCSW, Operations Administrator – Primary Care, followed with a discussion on Innovations in the Healthcare Delivery System. The group continued with a Tour of the Hospital, and then had the opportunity to meet with Michael A. Morrey, PhD, Regional Chair – Administration, Northwest Wisconsin and Southwest Wisconsin, for a focused Introduction to Mayo Clinic Health System including distinguishing leadership characteristics, as well as his own Leadership Path.
Jordan Dow, FACHE, PharmD, MS, Regional Director – Pharmacy, Mayo Clinic Health System, Northwest Wisconsin, wrapped up the morning as another 2016 graduate of the ACHE Wisconsin Chapter Leadership Development Program and current program committee member, and shared valuable insights that ranged from Drug Pricing to the process of earning and maintaining the distinguished FACHE Credential as a board certified healthcare executive.
Mike Gutsch, FACHE, Chief Executive Officer, Cumberland Healthcare, joined the group after lunch for an engaging discussion on Rural Healthcare, and shared unique insights and lessons learned from his own Leadership Journey. Keri Nelson, RN, Director of Nursing, Cumberland Healthcare, followed with a discussion on Nursing Leadership, and experience working with Labor Unions in the Healthcare Setting.
The day of learning concluded with a Panel of Vice Chairs – Administration, Mayo Clinic Health System, including Jason Craig, MBA, Vice Chair – Administration, Medical & Surgical Specialties; Zan Degen, RN, MBA, Vice Chair – Administration, Medical & Surgical Specialties; and Dean Eide, EdD, Vice Chair – Administration, Hospital Operations; with Insights and Perspectives for Successful Leadership in the Healthcare Setting.
Nicole Aloia, MHA, MA, Operations Administrator – Medical Oncology, Mayo Clinic Health System, and Benjamin (BJ) Brenna, PT, DPT, SCS, PES, Director of Business Development and Rehabilitation Services, Cumberland Healthcare, collaborated as co-hosts in planning the Site Visit as part of our ACHE-WI Leadership Development Program and student mentee Anna Johannes joined the group from Future Healthcare Executives at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
